The Pairing and Sharing Grant The Pairing and Sharing Grant awarded to these two districts provides teleconferencing equipment and funds so that the schools, teachers and students can collaborate on a joint problem-based task. The task assigned to the team - create plans for a sea voyage of Spanish-speaking researchers and researchers who are deaf - brings together the respective World Language programs (ASL and Spanish) as well as the science curriculum. Students will use the teleconferencing equipment to teach each other their "expert" languages, collaborate on tasks at hand, and just get to know each other. Teachers will collaborate on instructional goals and professional development. The differences between the schools in terms of their socioeconomic and ethnic makeup ensure that both students and teachers will learn a great deal from their interaction.
