Alcohol Awareness

US Department of Heath and Human Services
The US Department of Health provides a Hyperlinking article about Alcohol Awareness. Links include information specifically directed to teens and several Web casts and sites for streaming video pertaining to alcohol awareness education.

Alcohol Free Children
A site dedicated to helping children make responsible decisions when dealing with alcohol. This site has a statistics, regional information and an area dedicated to parents and teachers. The educators section contains lesson ideas, articles and much more.

Chemical Dependency Center
This is a fantastic site for statistical information about alcohol abuse and consumption. The site provides information and answers to many questions for school grades 7th and up.

The Marin Institute
The Marin Institute gives students a great resource whiling doing research for alcohol awareness. This site provides not only statistical and factual information but also gives information about ongoing and past lawsuits to the alcohol industry. The information on this site is for older middle school and high school students.

Diabetes Awareness Month

American Diabetes Association
This site will provide information on prevention, detection and details about events for the month of November. Also find great recipes and links to other resources on Diabetes.

CDC's Diabetes Program
On this site, several links will elaborate on how to teach about Diabetes and then give more links for further information. The educational section is chalked full of lesson ideas.

George Washington Hospital
This site is written in Spanish. Find resources for bilingual and world language Spanish students on Diabetes

International Diabetes Foundation
November 14, 2004 is National Diabetes Day. Find out what is going on in the world to recognize this day and how you or your students can participate. There is a Spanish speaking site for bilingual and world language Spanish speaking students.

Youth Zone
The National Diabetes Association has a Web site dedicated to young people. This site will define, explain and give resources specifically for young people. Great for elementary school and middle school students.

General Sites for Health & PE

Nutrition Explorations
This site is divided into areas designed especially for educators, parents, schools, and kids. It provides comprehensive information on nutrition and great ideas that will make learning about nutrition interesting.

PE Central
If you have a great PE idea, then you should visit this site to submit your idea and to see what other teachers are doing to bring physical education into the limelight. You will find research studies on how physical education is helping students perform better academically, student quotes about their PE experiences, and much more.

Dole 5 a Day
This site is a must see for health and PE teachers. Great ideas for teaching nutrition, interactive games, musical games, and kids cookbooks all can be accessed by visiting this site.

Health and Fitness in a Busy World

This online article offers ideas for exercise in a busy society. Find information about types of exercise and how to still keep fit while keeping up a hectic schedule.

Nutricounter
This site acknowledges winter being an excuse not to exercise. Provided in this online article are tips and suggestions on how to stay fit during the winter months.

The President's Challenge
This national program challenges children, youth, adults and seniors to get fit. This site gives advice on how to set up a fitness schedule for busy people. Suggestions on how to stay fit with a commitment of 30 minutes a day.

Jumping Rope
Stay fit by jumping rope! This site provides pictures and descriptions of different ways of jumping rope. Find out different techniques while learning which muscles are being toned and how jumping rope can be a fun cardiovascular activity. The North Dakota Wheat Commission
a Web-site that teaches kids the importance of wheat and the nutritional value of wheat. Download coloring and activity books too!

Dole 5 a day
Sponsored by the Dole Foods Corp., this Web-site has loads of nutritional information about fruits and vegetables. A Just for Kids section has information on all sorts of fruits and veggies. Plus, therešs an encyclopedia that gives detailed information. Educators can order a CD and download resources for classroom use.

Kids Food Cyber Club
Just the place for kids, teachers and parents. Kids can find out nutritional information; teachers can Find out about lesson plans for this site and related web sites on kids, education, nutrition, and the Internet. Parents can Learn about activities you can do with their children to help them eat well and stay healthy.

The Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition
And finally, the food and drug administrationšs answer to nutritional information. This site is for serious inquiry into food and nutrition. However, one golden nugget for the everyday consumer is the Kids, Teens, and Educators section. A quiz, coloring book, and food safety tips are among the gems hidden here.

Human Body Simulations

A Look inside the Human Body
This is a good site to understand how the body works. It is in an easy-to-read format with pictures for visual learners. It explores the muscular, skeletal, circulatory, nervous, immune, digestive, and respiratory systems.

The Virtual Body
This is an interactive site for students to learn about parts of the body. They can also put together the skeleton, heart, bones, digestive tract, and brain. There are narratives for each of the body parts and games for each area of the body.

How the Body Works
This is a great site for students to learn how the body works with all its different systems. There are movies to see and hear about different body parts. The site includes the skeletal, cardiovascular, digestive and urinary systems and promises six more soon. There are also games, word finds and quizzes for students to play.

Teaching with the Human Body
This site is for teachers only. It has many ideas for games, lesson plans, and activities for the different systems of the body such as the nervous, muscular, and skeletal systems and so many more!

Your Gross and Cool Body
Wendy the Worm and her friend Dora explore gross body sounds and body parts. There are sounds to accompany the facts. There is also a place to email Wendy and Dora with comments or questions. It is an interesting and very informative site.

Surfing Inside the Human Body
This a comprehensive site for exploring the human body. It has annotated pictures and short explanations to describe the pictures. There are also quizzes the students can take where immediate feedback is given.

Iditarod

The official site of the Iditarod race. The official 2005 race begins on March 5th. Log on daily to see live Web cams, pictures, quotes and the latest statistics and logs from the mushers.

Dogsled
This site gives you all sorts of information about the Iditarod race and other races like it. Find information about the dogs, the mushers and even how to join a live race! There is a specific area for kids, audio and video clips and live weather updates from all of the dogsled races.

Education World and the Iditarod Web Cam
This site provides an article about ways to use Web cams in the classroom. One way mentioned is how a teacher used the Iditarod Web cam in her classroom to incorporate several different subject areas and skills throughout her curriculum. Great reading and it does contain a link to the specified teachers' resources.

Scholastic Iditarod Race Across Alaska
Scholastic provides several lesson plan ideas for the Iditarod. Many links and activities are provided with curriculum concepts and mapping.

The Iditarod ... Where men are men and women win!
Women do compete and win the Iditarod! This site has the history of women in the Iditarod along with basic facts and a lot of unknown information about the Iditarod.

Neat Solutions
Neat Solutions provides a Web site dedicated to providing informational and fun activities and lesson plans for teachers, parents, and people in the food service industry. Most lesson plans are provided in Spanish as well as English and teachers can find several activities for all age groups.

Food and Nutrition Information Center
This government-sponsored site provides articles and links for parents, teachers and teens. Students doing research papers can find several different resources about nutrition and different topics surrounding nutrition. Parents and teachers will find valuable resources for school and home.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar
This WebQuest will allow early elementary students to explore the food pyramid and proper eating habits while working individually and in small groups.

Education World
Education World again provides a great resource for young learners. This site gives extensive resources and ideas for nutrition while focusing on cross-curricular activities. Links are also provided for additional resources, music and clipart.

Instructional Materials in Nutrition
This site contains "Theme Pages" which focus on specific topics within Nutrition. Students and teachers will find curricular resources to help learn about Nutrition.

This is a great coaching resource with articles, polls and resources. One of the most interesting features is called "The Situation" where an on-field scenario is given, the user is asked to respond, and the responses are posted on the site.

The Weekend Warrior
This Web site is the online companion to the radio show of Dr. Stuart Zeman. Links to how to treat various injuries, visuals, and an interactive "Ask Dr. Zeman" section round out the site.

Stress (Reducing Stress)

Learning Meditation
