We use Strategic Planning to take a systems look at an organization: how do all of the components of an organization work together to maximize success. We use a SWOTS approach (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) to help stakeholders assess the district in its current state. We then engage the team in assessing the relationships among the various components. For example, what is the relationship between the printed curriculum and the taught curriculum? What is the relationship between the teacher observation process and instructional improvement?
In today’s rapidly changing world, it is impossible to develop a 5-year or even a 3-year plan that can be fully implemented. Rather, the result of the Strategic Planning process is a multi-year blueprint for success that will drive annual action planning.
