Leading a Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom Initiative
When IDE Corp. works with a school to design Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classrooms, we also recommend providing the principal with coaching around what to look for in the classroom. This is a personalized process of meeting with the principal combined with classroom visits and subsequent discussions. Given that the principal contributes greatly to the culture of the school; the principal and consultant also plan for deliberate actions toward creating a culture that is open to change.
The New Principal
Principals who are new to the position have a generally steep learning curve and do not have others who are hierarchically the same in the school to serve as a sounding board. The coaching process provides them with someone to provide insights, thought-provoking questions, and resources. Early coaching for new principals can be a key factor in a school’s effectiveness.
Leading a School Improvement Initiative
Principals coming into a failing school have to juggle multiple areas of engagement, including: culture, messaging, human capital, social capital, data-driven decision-making, assessment, instruction, resources, and more. Having a partner who views the school from the outside lens can be invaluable in accelerating change.
