Company History IDE Corp. has its roots in another company started by IDE President and founder Dr. Nancy Sulla. Nancy incorporated Compuco Inc. in 1987 and began working with businesses and schools who were interested in "thinking outside the box" with technology. The company's first educational client was the Sparta School System (still a client!) Compuco's first product, LogoWriter Activities for Readers, was designed by Nancy with reading specialist Evelyn Groch. At the time, Nancy was the computer coordinator for the Mahwah School systems and was consulting on weekends, evenings, and summers. By 1991, Compuco's work focused exclusively on schools with an emphasis on redesigning instruction. Several educators worked on a part-time basis with Compuco to train teachers. A second product, HyperStudy: The Constellations, was released. 1994 marked the year that Dr. Sulla resigned her position in Mahwah and decided to grow the company. In 1995, Boyd Adolfsson became the company's second employee (with Dr. Sulla being the first). Together, they designed the company's next product, The Technology Infusion ToolKit. As the company's client base grew, Rob Cohen, and part-time consultant Peggy Cole, were added to the team. Next added was Paulette Blowe, who specialized in urban school reform. In 1997, Boyd left the company to return to a career in teaching. Brad Pearl came on board to fill his shoes. As a result of comments by clients that the name Compuco emphasized computers and didn't reflect the company's innovative approach to teaching and learning, Dr. Sulla formed a second company: IDE Corp. -- Innovative Designs for Education. Dr. Sulla was asked to be a professor in Canter's video-based Distance Learning Masters in Teaching program. Soon after that, she produced a series of educational videos by the Video Journal of Education entitled The Technology-Infused Classroom. From there, the company kept growing and currently has more than 40 dedicated and talented full-time employees and several consultants who work on a contract basis. In 2000, the company unveiled the IDE Portal. We consider ourselves a small company with big ideas. The Brookside School in Westwood, a school that we had been working in since its creation in 1998, received NJ Star School status. At the heart of their application was how they were addressing the workplace readiness standards through the learner-active, technology-infused classroom. We're very proud of our clients and their willingness to take important risks to rethink instruction and technology use. We're very proud of our bright, dedicated, passionate, and talented consultants who continue to inspire one another and grow the company's vision. |
