Today,
the telephone book publishes the name, address, and phone number of many people.
Within a short period of time, the world’s citizens will be expected
to have a personal Web page. Whereas editors used to be the gatekeepers of
published information, today anyone can publish across the Internet. How does
one create an effective public image? What should be included and what should
not? How can schools help students build the skills they need to be effective
personal publishers?
- Schools can have students of all ages build Web
sites that can be posted to the district's intranet (as opposed to the Internet
for all to see, which could be problematic.) Web authoring software is something
all students should learn to use.
- Students learning to publish on the Web can enter
the ThinkQuest
contest.
